Loiter Point does not run a testing lab. We do not own a filament chamber, a set of calipers, or a decibel meter, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we do is read the people who do own those things, cross-reference their published measurements against each other, and then check both against what actual owners report after months of use.
For this guide that means three inputs. First, published independent measurements from outlets that run their own benchmark prints — Tom's Hardware's best-picks page and its individual printer reviews are the backbone here, because they publish repeatable test-print results rather than vibes. Second, manufacturer spec sheets, which we treat as claims rather than findings and label accordingly: when you see "500 mm/s" in this guide it is always tagged rated, because that number describes a maximum the firmware will accept, not a speed at which the machine produces parts you would want to keep. Third, verified owner reports — sustained accounts from people who have run these machines for months, which is the only place failure modes like belt stretch, nozzle clogs, and warranty experience actually surface.
Where those three sources agree, we state the finding plainly. Where they disagree, we say so. And where we could not find a defensible real-world number — which is most of the time, for print speed — we describe the behavior qualitatively instead of inventing a figure. A made-up "real-world 180 mm/s" would look more authoritative than "meaningfully slower than rated, and dependent on your part geometry," but only one of those is true.
Prices throughout are street prices as of July 2026. 3D printer pricing is unusually volatile — promotional pricing on this category recurs often enough that the "sale" price is frequently the real price — so treat every number here as a snapshot, not a guarantee.

The A1 is the printer to buy if what you want is printed objects rather than a hobby in printer maintenance. It is a bed-slinger, not a CoreXY — the bed moves back and forth on the Y axis — which on paper sounds like a downgrade from the machines below it. In practice Bambu paired it with full automatic calibration and active flow rate compensation, and the result is a machine that gets to a good first layer without you learning what a first layer is.
Prefer single-color and want to save? The plain A1 without the AMS lite is the same printer. There is also an A1 mini, which was running $219 promotional against a $299 list price.

The P1S is the A1's argument settled in favor of physics. It is a fully enclosed CoreXY, manufacturer rated to 500 mm/s and 20,000 mm/s² acceleration, and the enclosure is the entire point: it is what makes ABS and ASA practical rather than an exercise in watching corners peel off the plate. Add the AMS and it handles up to 16 colors. It also has the built-in camera the Prusa lacks.
Don't need multi-color? The single-color P1S is the unit that has been hitting $399.
ABS and ASA shrink as they cool. Not a lot — but a layer that cools faster than the layer beneath it contracts more, and the stress differential pulls the part off the build plate at the corners. That's warping, and it is why so many people give up on ABS after three failed prints and go back to PLA forever.
An enclosure fixes this by trapping the heat the printer is already producing, so the chamber sits well above room temperature and each layer cools slowly and evenly. There is no clever firmware substitute. This is the single reason the P1S is on this list separately from the A1 — same build volume, same ecosystem, same 256 mm cube, but only one of them lets you print a part that will survive being left in a hot car.

The Centauri Carbon is the machine that makes the "you have to pay Bambu prices for a good CoreXY" argument hard to sustain. Rated to 500 mm/s, a 320°C nozzle, auto calibration, built-in camera, and the same 256 mm cube of build volume as both Bambu picks — at a sale price that lands near the A1. The 320°C hot end matters more than it sounds: it opens up the higher-temperature and filled filaments that a 260°C or 300°C nozzle can't reliably feed.

The Ender-3 line is the reason a generation of people learned what a bed level is, and the V3 SE is the version that stopped requiring you to. CR Touch auto-leveling, a Sprite direct-drive extruder, and dual Z-axis are all things the original Ender-3 owner had to buy separately and install with printed brackets. Rated to 250 mm/s, with a 220 × 220 × 250 mm build volume — the smallest here.
Buy this if you want to understand the machine. It is open, endlessly documented, and every failure mode has a decade of forum threads behind it. Buy something else if you want to press print and walk away.

The CORE One is Prusa converting its long-running i3 lineage to CoreXY, and it is the only machine here you fully own. Any slicer works. The firmware is community-editable. Nothing phones home to a vendor cloud you didn't choose. If that matters to you, it is the only pick on this list that qualifies.
Tom's Hardware independently verified approximately the speed margin Prusa published: roughly 20% faster than the MK4S, with slightly better print quality. That is the kind of claim we like — a manufacturer number that an outside party checked and largely confirmed. The current standard model is the CORE One+, a hardware refresh shipping since November 27, 2025, and there is a large-format CORE One L variant if the build volume is your constraint.
The notable omission: no built-in camera, which every other pick on this list except the Ender-3 V3 SE includes.

Every printer above is FDM: a nozzle melts plastic filament and draws the object layer by layer. FDM is what you want for functional parts, brackets, enclosures, anything that needs to bear load or survive heat. It is cheap to feed, non-toxic, and the failure modes are forgiving.
Resin (MSLA) works differently — a screen flashes UV light through a vat of liquid photopolymer, curing an entire layer at once. The resolution difference is not subtle. If you are printing miniatures, jewelry, dental models, or anything where a visible layer line ruins the result, resin is not an upgrade to FDM, it is a different tool. The Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 12K is the common entry point; there is also a 16K version if you want the finer screen.
The tradeoff is real and worth stating before you buy: liquid resin is an irritant, it requires gloves and ventilation, and every print needs washing in isopropyl alcohol and curing under UV afterward. Resin parts are also more brittle than FDM parts. If your answer to "what will you print" is "brackets and organizers," stay with FDM. If it is "a 32mm figure with a face," go resin.
On a bed-slinger like the A1 or the Ender-3 V3 SE, the build plate — and everything printed on it — accelerates back and forth on the Y axis for the entire job. The heavier the print gets and the taller it stands, the more inertia the machine is fighting, and the more that tall part wants to wobble. Push the speed and you get ringing artifacts on the walls.
CoreXY moves only the print head, driven by two belts working together across both axes, while the bed does nothing but descend. Less moving mass means higher usable acceleration — which is why the P1S can carry a 20,000 mm/s² rated acceleration spec at all. That said: the A1 is on this list at number one and the P1S at number two, because for most people calibration quality and noise matter more day-to-day than peak speed. CoreXY is a real advantage; it is just not the only one that counts.

The interesting thing about the 2026 3D printer market is that the hard problem has largely been solved. Auto-calibration works. First layers land. The question is no longer "will this thing print" but "what tradeoff do you want" — and there are only really three.
The first is ecosystem. Bambu Lab machines are a polished walled garden: everything works together, and you are steered toward their slicer, their parts, their cloud. Creality, Elegoo, and Anycubic are more open — any slicer works, and nobody minds what filament you feed them. Prusa is the far end of that spectrum, fully open source down to community-editable firmware. Most buyers should be honest that the walled garden is a feature, not a cost, right up until the day it isn't.
The second is materials, and it comes down to one question: do you need an enclosure? If you're printing PLA and PETG — organizers, toys, prototypes, most of what most people print — you don't, and the A1 Combo is your machine. If ABS or ASA is in your future, the P1S Combo is not optional, it's the requirement.
The third is how much you enjoy the machine itself. The Ender-3 V3 SE at $219 rewards curiosity and punishes impatience. The CORE One+ at $1,199 is for people who want to own the thing outright and will use that ownership. And the Centauri Carbon around $299 sits in the middle: CoreXY performance and an open ecosystem at a price that makes the walled-garden question worth asking again.
One last note on the numbers in this guide. Every "500 mm/s" you see here is a rated figure from a spec sheet, and no printer produces parts you'd keep at its rated maximum. We have not published a real-world mm/s figure for any machine on this list, because we could not find one from an independent source we'd be willing to stand behind. If you see a site quoting a precise real-world print speed without saying where it came from, that is a number someone made up.
