Deal Radar / Mid-August Check

10 Tech Price Drops We Actually Verified

Most "deals" aren't. These are — every price below was opened on Amazon's live listing and read off the page before it was published here. Re-verified August 12: we re-opened all ten on Amazon and they held at the listed prices. Two changes this run — we added the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones at $369.99 (a genuine 18% cut, sold by Amazon), and the Canon PowerShot V10's buy box has rotated to a marketplace seller, so it now links to an Amazon search rather than a fixed listing. Nothing was pruned. Details below.

Ten deals is nine too many decisions. If you just want the best verified value at your price point, it's one of these three:

Under $100
Apple AirPods 4
$99$129
First-party AirPods under $100, sold by Amazon. Not the floor — they hit $69 last Black Friday — but the cheapest honest entry point on this page.
Grab it →
Under $250
Sony WH-1000XM5
$248$399.99
38% off the over-ear ANC benchmark — the deepest percentage cut on this page, sold and shipped by Amazon. It touched $198 during June's Prime event, so this is excellent rather than historic.

Going Big
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
$1,999$2,498
$499 off a genuine professional body — still the single deepest verified dollar cut on this page, and sold and shipped by Amazon rather than a marketplace seller. It's held at $1,999 across our recent checks.

The Deal Radar Promise

Every discount here is real. We don't list a deal unless the "was" price matches what the product actually sold for — no inflated anchor prices, no fake countdown clocks, no "only 2 left!" theater.

This run we re-opened all ten deals on Amazon and every one held. Every price below was read off Amazon's live page today — the Canon 5D Mark IV at $1,999, the OM-5 Mark II kit at $1,349.99, the AirPods Pro 3 at $189.99, and the rest unchanged. We added one deal we could stand behind: the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) at $369.99, a genuine 18% cut off the $449 list, sold and shipped by Amazon. One link changed direction: the Canon PowerShot V10's buy box has rotated from Amazon to a marketplace seller (iPro Photo), so it now points to an Amazon search rather than a fixed listing. Nothing needed pruning.

There are still no "Lowest Tracked Price" badges anywhere on this page. Those badges are a claim about price history, and this run we again could not independently re-open our price-history source to stand behind them. Rather than let an unverifiable badge ride, they stay off until we can re-check them.

🎧 Headphones & Earbuds

Four picks here — the deepest percentage cut on the page, Apple's current ANC flagship at a 30-day low, a first-party sub-$100 option, and Bose's flagship ANC at 18% off. All four are sold and shipped by Amazon. None is at its historic floor, and we say so in each card.

38% Off
Sony WH-1000XM5
Benchmark ANC · 30-hr battery · multipoint
$248$399.99−38%
The deepest percentage cut on this page. $152 off the over-ear ANC benchmark. Full honesty: it touched $198 for one day during June's Prime event — $248 is excellent, not historic. The newer WH-1000XM6 remains the thinner deal of the two, so the XM5 stays our pick.

Buy box: sold & shipped by Amazon.com
24% Off
Apple AirPods Pro 3
ANC flagship · heart-rate sensing · USB-C
$189.99$249−24%
Apple's current ANC flagship, and Amazon's own listing flags it a 30-day low. $59 off the $249 list, sold and shipped by Amazon. Honest note: this is a newer model with a short price history, so we can't point to a Black Friday floor yet — the "30-day low" is Amazon's own label, not an independent tracker, which is why there's no Lowest Tracked Price badge here. If you want active noise cancellation from Apple, this is the one to get over the non-ANC AirPods 4 below.

Buy box: sold & shipped by Amazon.com
Apple AirPods 4
H2 chip · spatial audio · USB-C case
$99$129−23%
First-party AirPods under $100 (this is the non-ANC version). Price history shows it hit $69 last Black Friday, so patient buyers should wait for November — but if you need earbuds today, $99 is a fair entry.

Buy box: sold & shipped by Amazon.com
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)
Immersive Audio · adjustable ANC · up to 30-hr battery
$369.99$449−18%
Bose's flagship ANC over-ears, sold and shipped by Amazon. $79 off the $449 list — a genuine 18% cut, read live off Amazon's page today. It's the natural rival to the Sony WH-1000XM5 above: Bose's noise cancelling and comfort against Sony's slightly lower price. Honest note: 18% is a solid discount, not a historic floor, and we couldn't independently re-open price-history tracking this run — so there's no Lowest Tracked Price badge, and the "$449" anchor is Amazon's own list price for the 2nd-gen model.

📷 Cameras

Full-frame for hundreds off, plus a weather-sealed travel kit. Three of the five are sold and shipped by Amazon; the Nikon Z6 II and the Canon PowerShot V10 both have a marketplace seller in the buy box this run, so each links to an Amazon search rather than a fixed listing.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (DSLR)
30.4 MP full-frame · EF mount · pro workhorse
$1,999$2,498−20%
Still the deepest dollar cut on the page: $499 off. Read live today at $1,999, sold and shipped by Amazon (a cheaper used third-party offer sits below the buy box — our number is Amazon's own). Honest note: it's held at $1,999 across our recent checks, a 20% cut rather than the deeper 28% we saw when it briefly dipped to $1,799 earlier this summer. It carried a "Lowest Tracked Price" badge in the past; that badge is not back, because we couldn't re-verify the price history this run. It's a 2016 DSLR design and mirrorless has passed it on autofocus and video — but if you own EF glass or want an optical viewfinder, it's a lot of camera for the money.

Nikon Z6 II (full-frame)
24 MP · dual processors · excellent handling
$1,396.95$1,749.95−20%
Still $1,396.95, but the buy box is a marketplace seller. The 20% cut off the $1,749.95 list is holding, and the price read live today at $1,396.95 — but the seller in the buy box is a third-party marketplace seller (Beach Camera), not Amazon.com. Because that buy box can rotate seller and price without the listing changing, this links to an Amazon search rather than a fixed listing. Confirm the seller and price on Amazon's page before buying. Nikon USA model.

Canon EOS R5 (pro full-frame)
45 MP · 8K video · pro-grade AF
$2,999$3,298−9%
Holding at $2,999, and we're keeping the honest note. The live listing re-read today at $2,999, sold and shipped by Amazon — $299 off the $3,298 list, a thin 9% cut. It's a real discount on a genuine professional body, but at this price our honest read is to wait unless you need it now — it was cheaper (around $2,599) two runs ago.

Buy box: sold & shipped by Amazon.com (a cheaper used-condition offer also exists on the same page — our price is the new one)
Canon PowerShot V10 (vlogging)
Pocket vlogging cam · built-in stand & mic
$429$479−10%
Still $429, but the buy box has rotated to a marketplace seller. Purpose-built for talking-to-camera content — no rig, no accessories, out of the box. The price read live today at $429, a thin 10% cut off the $479 list — but the seller in the buy box is now a third-party marketplace seller (iPro Photo), not Amazon.com as it was last run. Because that buy box can rotate seller and price without the listing changing, this links to an Amazon search rather than a fixed listing. Confirm the seller and price on Amazon's page before buying. A fair deal, not a rare one; it bounces to this level often.

$429 comes from the Canon V10 listing but with a marketplace seller (iPro Photo) in the buy box — which is why this is a search link, not a fixed listing
OM System OM-5 Mark II + 14-150mm
Weather-sealed travel kit · huge zoom range
$1,349.99$1,499.99−10%
Still $1,349.99, sold by Amazon directly. The 10% cut off the $1,499.99 list is holding, and the buy box today is Amazon (sold and shipped), so this links straight to the listing. Our earlier tracking noted $1,269.99 in late June, so this is above its floor — a fine price on a current-model travel kit, not a compelling one.

🎥 Action Cameras

The Osmo Action 5 Pro cut is still thin, and we still say so.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Essential Combo
Current flagship · 4K/120 · dual touchscreens
$309$339−9%
A thin 9% cut on the current model, unchanged again today ($30 off a $339 list). Our honest read: skip it unless you need an action cam this week. It sold for $288 in early July; we'd wait for the next sale event.

$309 comes from the DJI-branded listing but with a marketplace seller (DJI Tech Hub) in the buy box, shipped by Amazon — which is why this is a search link, not a fixed listing

⚡ Nerd Box: How We Verify a "Deal"

Retail "was" prices are the most gamed number in commerce — anchor a fake $499, "discount" to the everyday $299, and the brain's loss-aversion circuitry does the rest. So we don't take was-prices at face value. Before a deal makes this page, we open the Amazon listing, read the price off the live page, and check who is actually in the buy box.

There are no "Lowest Tracked Price" badges on this page today, and that is deliberate. That badge is a claim about price history, not about today's price, and this run we could not re-open our price-history source to re-confirm it. An unverifiable badge is worse than no badge, so it stays off. It comes back when we can check it, not before. That is also why the AirPods Pro 3 and the newly added Bose QuietComfort Ultra get no such badge — their anchors are Amazon's own list and "30-day low" labels, not an independent tracker.

Who is selling matters as much as the price. This run three of the ten deals — the DJI Osmo action cam, the Nikon Z6 II, and the Canon PowerShot V10 — have a marketplace seller in the buy box rather than Amazon or the brand. Marketplace buy boxes rotate: the price and the seller can both change without the listing changing. So those three link to an Amazon search rather than a single listing, and each card flags it. The Canon V10's buy box was Amazon last run and has rotated to a marketplace seller (iPro Photo) this run — exactly the kind of change these search links guard against. The other seven are sold and shipped by Amazon and link directly.

No badge means it's a genuine discount, but the product has hit this price (or close) before — several deals here sold for less during June's Prime event or the July 4th weekend, and we say so in each card rather than pretend otherwise. When a deal is mediocre we say that too (see the Osmo Action 5 Pro), and when we can't re-confirm a price live we pull the deal rather than guess. Amazon's own promotional badges — "30% off," "limited time deal" — are their arithmetic against their list price, not ours; where our anchor is more conservative than theirs, we publish the smaller number.

The Tricks We Refuse To Use

Deal pages are persuasion machines, so here's ours with the hood open. What you'll find here: real deadlines, real price history, real savings math. What you will never find here: countdown timers (they're theater — the clock resets), "only 3 left!" stock claims (we don't have Amazon's inventory data, and neither do most sites that show them), inflated "was" prices (the oldest trick in retail), or fake editor's awards. If a page needs to lie to sell you something, the deal was never good. Ours don't need to.

What changed on August 12: We re-opened all ten deals on Amazon today and they held at the listed prices. Two changes: we added the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) at $369.99 (a genuine 18% cut, sold by Amazon), and the Canon PowerShot V10's buy box rotated to a marketplace seller (iPro Photo), so it's a search link now rather than a fixed listing. Nothing was pruned. There are still no "Lowest Tracked Price" badges: we again could not independently re-open price-history tracking, so they stay off. Amazon doesn't publish when its "limited time deal" flags end, so treat these as live-until-they-aren't — no deadline pressure, but no guarantee these prices survive the week either.
