That means three rules govern every number on this page. First, if a figure came from someone else's instrument, it is attributed to them by name. Second, anything we can only estimate from converging owner accounts is labelled "est. real-world" or "reported" — never "measured", because we did not measure it. Two hundred dollars off list makes the Pixel 10 Pro one of the more aggressive value propositions in the band, and its triple rear camera plus Google's computational stack remains the reference point for point-and-shoot output. The 6.3" Super Actua display is genuinely excellent, and Gemini AI features are deeper here than what any competitor ships on-device. Google claims 24+ hours of battery life; that is a manufacturer claim, and we're labelling it as one.
The iPhone 17 matters because Apple finally removed the two compromises that made the base model a grudging purchase. Storage doubled to 256GB at the same $799 entry price, and the high-refresh-rate display arrived on the non-Pro model. Those were the exact two things that used to push buyers up the range. On a 6.3" panel with Apple's long OS support record, the base iPhone stopped being the one you settle for.
This is the most measurably exceptional phone in the guide, and the measurement isn't ours. Tom's Guide's battery test recorded an average of 25 hours 13 minutes — by their account the first phone they'd measured stateside to comfortably clear two days. That comes from a 7,300 mAh cell, a capacity that simply was not achievable in this form factor a couple of generations ago. Charging matches: 80W SUPERVOOC wired is reported at roughly 45% in 15 minutes and about 81% in 30. PhoneArena and Tom's Guide both rate its performance and thermal behaviour highly.
Fifth place here is not a criticism; it's a statement about price. At list the Pixel 10 sits in a crowded field, but it discounts harder and more often than anything else in this guide. At the roughly $599 tracked low you're getting the same 6.3" Actua display class, the same triple rear camera architecture, and the same Tensor G5 platform that anchors the Pro — for meaningfully less than the base iPhone or Galaxy. If you buy on a dip, this is the best dollar-per-capability result on the page.
For most of the last decade, phone battery capacity in this form factor stalled around 4,500–5,000 mAh. The constraint was volumetric energy density — graphite anodes take up a fixed amount of space per unit of charge, and phone chassis were not getting thicker. Silicon-carbon anode chemistry changes that arithmetic: silicon holds substantially more lithium per unit volume than graphite, and blending it into a carbon matrix manages the swelling that historically wrecked cycle life. The practical result is more capacity in the same physical envelope.
The OnePlus 15's 7,300 mAh cell is what that shift looks like at retail, and Tom's Guide's 25 hr 13 min average is what it looks like in an independent rundown test. That is not an incremental improvement over a typical flagship result — it's a category change, which is why their write-up framed it as the first phone they'd measured stateside to comfortably clear two days.
The related point worth internalising: fast charging and big capacity are no longer a trade-off. 80W SUPERVOOC pushing a reported ~45% in 15 minutes on a 7,300 mAh cell means the absolute energy delivered per minute is higher than on a smaller battery charging at the same rated wattage. Bigger battery, same charge time — that's the part that actually changes daily behaviour.
The Tensor G5 sits behind Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in published benchmarks, and Google has never seriously contested that. Standard benchmark suites weight CPU and GPU throughput heavily — sustained multi-core compute, rasterisation, memory bandwidth. Tensor allocates a disproportionate share of its die to the TPU/ISP block that runs Google's computational photography and on-device Gemini inference, and that block contributes almost nothing to a benchmark score.
So the two facts are both true and not in tension: the Pixel 10 Pro is slower on paper and produces better photographs out of the camera app. Which one matters depends entirely on what you do. Heavy gaming or sustained compute workloads will expose the gap. Shooting photos, running on-device AI, and normal daily use will not.

If you want one answer and no further reading, buy the Galaxy S26 at around $799. It is the phone with no weak axis, and after Samsung's own cut from $899.99 it's priced level with the base iPhone while giving you the display and support story that owners rate highest.
Past that, the decision is genuinely about what you optimise for, and each alternative has a specific, evidenced reason to exist. Photographs and on-device AI point to the Pixel 10 Pro at around $899, with the honest caveat that its silicon trails the competition in published benchmarks. An existing iOS life points to the iPhone 17, which is a materially better buy than any base iPhone before it now that 256GB and a high-refresh display come standard at $799. Battery anxiety points to the OnePlus 15, and it points there with the only independently measured endurance figure on this page. And a tight budget points to the Pixel 10 — but only on a dip, and only if you can genuinely live with 128GB.
The thing we'd stress most: because Apple, Samsung and Google now all ship roughly six to seven years of OS updates on a 6.3" panel in this price band, whichever of these you buy, you are buying a phone you can keep. The differences that used to justify spending past $1,000 have mostly collapsed into this tier. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 arriving on July 22 will be interesting phones, and they will also be well outside this budget — that's a separate guide, not a reason to wait on this one.
